THE POLAR CARAVAN

“Compagnie KORBO” presents “the POLAR CARAVAN” with its enchanting boreal stopovers, made of ice and dreams, travelling from town to town to meet Nanuq, the Great She-Bear – an articulated bear-puppet that rolls, walks, rumbles and can stand on her hind legs, reaching a height of over 6 meters.

THE POLAR BEAR, WITNESS AND SYMBOL OF CLIMATE CHANGE

  • A solitary animal, the white bear, or polar bear (Ursus Maritimus), is the master of the Far North. This white giant roams the sea ice, 1000 kilometers from the pole.
  • The polar bear – a legendary animal, a force of nature, a fallen king – is an endangered ambassador who represents all the vulnerable species and regions around the World.
  • Carnivorous and plantigrade great mammals from the Ursidae family, bears can be found across the globe. Some species can be spotted in Asia, Europe and America. Its fur can be of diverse colours; brown in Asia and Europe, black and grey in America where it is called the Grizzly bear, and white in the Arctic Circle. It was once considered king of the animals in Europe before being dethroned by the lion.
  • The white bear is a semi-aquatic marine mammal whose survival depends primarily on sea ice and marine productivity. It is as good a hunter on land as it is under water.
  • Nanuq is the Inuit term for the polar bear and also the name of a God in Inuit mythology. This especially imposing white bear is considered chief of the polar bears. He can decide whether hunters have behaved in accordance with ritual rules in order to determine whether a bear hunt is a success.
  • Our show was built around and stems from this mythological God.

NANUQ, THE GREAT BEAR: AN AMBULATORY PARADE

Escorted by her seven boreal sentinels and Inuit acrobats, Nanuq the Great Bear will be undertaking a journey beyond the ice floes in order to plead her case in the world of machines to find a solution to this impending disaster, or at the very least to attempt to negotiate a right of way through their territory in order to find a sanctuary, a new world, a safe haven…
In the way of nomads from the Far North, the Polar Caravan will offer enchanting boreal stopovers, made of ice and dreams, allowing us to discover a marvellous world, a world of legends, of lights. The polar pathfinders will dance with the haze-makers, accompanied to this end by the ice gypsies who will, through music, offer us an explosive cocktail of a rare energy, of a trance-like intensity, and will transport us between earth and sky, between the stars and the great northern landscapes, not far from the boreal constellation known as Ursa Major, the Great Bear.

Ladies and gentlemen, you are kindly invited to do the same: let’s follow the Great Bear, let the show begin, let there be light…
